The JIC, which is no longer in existence, had a standard EGP-1-1967 which stated the panel door had to be closed and latched before turning on disconnect. Does anyone have any idea where I can get a copy of said standard? Any history on why this is no longer a standard? If the NFPA and OSHA require electricians to wear protective gear to open said panels because of Arc Flash concerns, why would they want to be able to turn the disconnect on without the door being latched.

See NFPA 79 and try to make contact with one of the committee members like John Bloodgood, he will have that information. Have you searched the internet?

Yes i have looked in some places on the web.
Can you tell me how to get in touch with Mr. Bloodgood? I have found a number of references to him and his expertise but no way of contacting him. Based on what I have found so far, it looks like sometime after 1985 this requirement was dropped. Probably because of foreign manufacturers, though, I have still seen most of new machines come in meeting that standard.
