Typical type of Ballast for two [2] F40T12 lamps. Rapid Start-Hot Cathode.

***NOTE*** There are two more makeups, somewhat similar to this Ballast, which are used for Bipin Fluorescent lamps [normal output, HO and VHO lamps].
Also, there are a few makeups for T8 lamps which use Bipin Cathode connections [typical of the now commonly used F32T8 lamps]. One is using a Magnetic Reactor Ballast, the other[s] are of the High Frequency / Electronic types [some Hybrids, some all Electronic].
