The Power and Water Corporation says it has received four expressions of interest from parties hoping to build a wind farm at Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

The corporation hopes up to 10 per cent of the town's electricity can be produced by wind.

The corporation's manager of sustainability, Trevor Horeman, says it could take several months to consider each submission.

"I've got to say during this phase that we're going through now, with the expressions of interest, if there's expressions there that are of interest then we might move forward into a tender phase early in the new year," he said.

"So it won't be an overnight resolution of the job."

Mr Horeman says the engineering and environmental aspects of each submission will have to be considered.

"There's a lot of dimensions of the project and impact on the visual aspect of the project and the impact of the wind turbines on the power system," he said.

"We don't want to overpower the system with wind and it's possible for wind to blow the system around in a sense."

Sounds like Mr. Horeman ( unfortunate name!) is expecting a lot of wind.

Does Tennant Creek get a lot of wind ?

The blue column shows wind speed, information regarding wind speed average & gusts is shown at the bottom of the page.

Be interesting to go up the road & have a look when this is all up & running.
