A VIETNAMESE man who once appeared on national television to demonstrate his ability to resist electric shocks was electrocuted while repairing a generator, an official said today.

Nguyen Van Hung, aged in his early 40s, was killed in Tay Ninh province near the Cambodian border while repairing the generator without first cutting the power supply, a local official said.

"When alive, he used to demonstrate at our office how he would insert two fingers into the electrical plughole without problems," the official said.

Hung, nicknamed "Hung Electric", had appeared on television's Strange Stories of Vietnam.

Silly man,

What does he think he is ??

an insulator ?

Every human being generally has a skin/body resistance of around 1 k. Ohms.

Perhaps he may have survived a few demonstration shocks when the humidity was low and his skin was very dry because of low air humidity.

He paid for this stupidity with his life, hopefully young kids don't copy his demo's, when they saw this clown doing it.

And no doubt with dry shoes so that he was pretty much insulated from any other earth path, confining the current to just the one hand.

There's a big difference between that and grabbing an energized conductor while (possibly/probably) leaning against a grounded generator frame.

People all sung,
of young Nguyen van Hung.
He was highly strung,
with only one lung.
So they'd bung him a Dong,
at the end of the song.
Then he'd show them his high resistance!

When he was hot,
he was very very Hot,
he'd got
quite a lot
of persistance.
But he met his fate
with a generator, mate!
- The late Hung
got flung
some distance!

It's funny how "news" gets distorted.
There was a report on this on the local radio station yesterday morning.
According to their report the guy was repairing a water pump.
Even so, nobody as far as I'm aware has any immunity to electric current flowing through the body, especially in a hand to hand capacity, the heart will soon see to that.
Sure we have all had shocks as electrical workers, but the key is to keep them to a minimum or eliminate them from happening.
A guy that advertises the fact that he can withstand an electric shock, is on a hiding to nothing for a start.
One final question, are they that starved for entertainment in Vietnam, that they have to endure some idiot with his false claim that he can buck the laws of physics?.

especially in a hand to hand capacity,

For sure. The worst shock I ever recall getting was when I was about 13 and a lampholder on a string of fairy lights disintegrated as I was changing a bulb. I was left with the shell of the holder in one hand and the wire which had become detached from the center contact in the other.

240V hand to hand is not nice! [Linked Image]
