As an added note, the ceiling heated house
my brother nearly bought(as other electrically heated houses in the
same neighbourhood), had two services, one for the normal house service, one specifically for the electric ceiling heat.

Paul,
Thanks for your reply regarding the Economy 7
metering system, it's the same as our Night Rate, over here.
I must say I agree with you regarding wooden floors, noisy they may be, to walk over, but give me wood, any day!.
To coin a phrase from an old Builder friend of mine "It(concrete) just doesn't feel the same, when I comes home drunk and I falls on it".
Back to the subject, Paul, what is the maximum load allowed on an Economy 7 system, in the UK, even if it is switched via a contactor?. [Linked Image]

Good question. I'm not sure what the PoCo here specifies as the maximum allowable Economy 7 load. Many homes with Economy 7 heating in this area are quite small, and have about 4 circuits, total loading about 8 to 12kW depending upon the size of the heaters. I've seen 6 heaters in some places, although it's unlikely that in this case they would all be 3kW types.
