Having experienced both types quite a bit I must profess to lean in favour of the BC type. Fitting and unfitting them is merely a twist of the wrist rather than turn-turn-turn. The sprung pins under the BC contacts make a positive contact with the bulb which bears no relationship to how hard (or not) one screws the ES bulb in. I know the BC pins do sometimes stick depressed and one always gets the awkward bulb but it’s the ES ones that cause me the greatest grief – dodgy connections and trying to unscrew one that was put in hard many years ago. Thick leather gloves for those ones!

And then there’s always that issue of polarity – with the solid metal ES shells common around here. [Linked Image]
