My word it certainly has!.
I remember in 1988, I built a TEC-1B Computer, that was designed in Australia and was built from a kit-set.
It later came out with a simple Speech module a year later, but it left a lot to be desired, it used allophones to form words and half the time you couldn't even work out what the thing was saying, even though I had just programmed it in!. [Linked Image]
