Hello all,

I've brought this up before, but I don't think there was any real determination on the best way to bond a pool. BTW, I put it over here in the theory section because it's not really a code issue as it can be done either way.

The code just states that the pool and all equipment associated with it be bonded together. Connection of the bonding wire to the EGC of the Power source is optional. Which way would be better? And Why?

just what is a "voltage gradient" anyway?

is there a reason for solid vs. stranded?

a side note; just what in the world is "underwater audio" ?

My understandings:

a Voltage Gradient is a difference in potential from one area to another. Solid is better (I think) because it holds up better against the elements and can take more damage?

Underwater audio? you mean Sonar??

ok , so what if there is a difference in potential from the pool area to the service area?

I guess i can understand how solid would be hardier...


ps- 680-23 was the next code, do people really want underwater speakers installed? maybe i've lead a sheltered life up here, i've never seen such an install, i can't imagine how it would work...

I think the issue is having a difference in potential in the pool itself or immediately adjacent to it. Can you imagine Current flowing through the water all the time?

I don't know what Underwater speakers would sound like, probably a lot of Base? I don't expect to be puttin in any. Maybe Seaworld could use them for something.

Note there is many $$$$ to correct a problem that a simple GFI would detect in this article.

There is also mention of the high V side of the service sustaining damage, creating the problem here.

Materials used to "bond" are in question here, so your original Q marches on...

In regards to the original Q. 680 confuses me on the subject, so my approach is to simply overground such installations.

by this is mean extra clamps, rods, bonds , etc. to anything available.

a rather paranoid approach, but so far no grief from the AHJ
