Matt,

Hi, thanks for your interest in our forum. I think that if you are determined to try and do Electrical work that you should seek some training, or at the very least, buy a good book. Your idea of connecting all blacks together and whites together would produce a short circuit. Your question leads me to believe that you do not know basic electrical theory and may not know proper safety practices or safe installation procedures. I would not feel comfortable advising you any further.
