As I read 300.11, we are not allowed to use the ceiling grid to support out pipe and boxes.
As this pic shows, some firm went to great lengths to manufacture assorted connectors for this specific purpose.
I look at B-Line's catalog shows they make a variety of such connectors (such as model BA-14).
So I ask some questions:
---Is it possible that B-Line would manufacture, even list, items that we're not allowed to use?
----Do I mis-understand the NEC? If I'm to apply the NEC, just how do I ascertain the "ceiling system menufacturers' instructions?"

I wouldn't expect the manufacturer of the ceiling system to have any instructions for electrical installations.
IMO the UL listing of materials certifies that it "dies" in a safe manner, not that it is proper material according to the NEC.
I'd like to see the item you mentioned. I don't have their catalog.

Not everyone uses the NEC as written, here in MA I can support electrical equipment from the ceiling tie wires. (Non-fire rated ceilings)

Not everyone uses the NEC as written Bob's right. Both B-Line and Caddy sell to an international market. The Caddy catalog has the disclaimer ..."check with local authority for application approval" on most of these items. Cooper/B-Line has a different catalog for Europe, Asia, and Africa than that for the Americas.

Just so no one get any ideas....This install is in the exoctic locale of Reno, Nv.
As for catalogs, I got the part number from the on-line catalog for North America.
Another thread (in the general forum, I think) mentions the Caddy part numbers.
