Squirrels love sunflower seeds, which is what I feed the birds. If left so the Squirrels get a free reign on the bird feeder they'll eat the thing dry every day. That gets kinda maddening so people try to keep the squirrels out of the feeder. The trouble is Squirrels figure out how to get around the things most people use. But not my piece of 12" round duct [Linked Image]. The only way I've seen them get around it is jump from a tree onto the top of the duct.It is quite entertaining to watch a squirrel hurl itself 10 feet laterally and then slide off and hit the ground [Linked Image]. They make electric fence like devices so the the squirrels get shocked but they cost big bucks. Mine cost some labor and possible 10 bucks for the duct and cap.

If you ever want to build a cheap electric fence unit, a car ignition coil (with resistor), 12 volt battery & a flasher can (the device with the bimetallic strip inside for the cars indicators) works a treat.

We finally got some snow which settled for a couple of days, although it's gone now.

From around the county:

And from a nearby village, this was actually the truck spreading grit to try to avoid such mishaps! Oops!
