Attached are some pictures of two leaning poles near my home. The bridge the transmission wires go over is a non-electric railroad bridge. The distribution lines go under the bridge. I don't know the voltages. I imagine the first pole started leaning in the wind, and the one on the opposite side is starting to lean. Sorry for the quality, They were taken in the rain. Feel free to use the photos as you like.

Thanks,
Ian A.

This thread reminds me of some poles I used to see when riding the train into NYC. A lot of marshes on the edge of NJ, and there were a bunch of poles set out in them. As we traveled you could watch as each pole progressively dipped lower and lower until the tops of the poles disappeared under the marsh waters, primary feeders and all! Then about 500 yards later, they'd suddenly reappear and gradually they'd straighten back up.

It was like a gull-durn flip book! [Linked Image]

I was driving along and saw this one, it is more poll bend then poll lean though:

This one bothers me the most, in this pic it does not look like it is leaning that much, but it is leaning forward as well as to the left, and has actually got worse since I took this pic, as someone backed there truck into the guy wire, but before that, if it is windy, that poll really starts to sway, and the poll easily moves just by touching the guy wire, there is also alot of slack between the phases, as well a mess of other cables:

<IMG alt="" hspace=0 src="http://www.glorb.com/pics/P1001615.jpg"

At least when the pole in gbrozny's second pic goes down with the pole pigs, the building on the left has a hefty emergency generator!

well, that is one of my concerns, if the poll falls the way it is leaning it will fall on the generator, and will the generator work with all that stuff falling on it is the big question. the city says they can only take care of the lean issue if they cut off everyones power for two days, take that poll and the transformers down, put in a new poll and put everything back up.

Great photo's! Amazing that some POCO's don't action these matters.

If some of these poles break or fall over, main feeders will be out of service for a while and the public may be at risk if nearby.

I see what I can find in our local network.

rodalco,

the sad part is, in most cases is simply about budget. If they fix them before they fall it comes out of one budget. If they fix them after they fall, it's a different budget. Plus I believe they can get funding for the emergency repair budget (easier for them to pass a rate increase along)

just my $0.02

For anyone that's wondering, the poles I sent in are still standing. I need to get the digi cam down to the industrial park, there's a pole with a (at least) 30º kink right under the second crossbeam! Someone took out a pole yesterday, car destroyed, pole snapped in half, 11KV (+ or -) wires still attached to crossbeam, three feet from ground. Replaced today.
