Why go through that trouble when you can plug a three way "Gem" tap into that single receptacle?

The single receptical is what replaced it as a source for my garage door opener. Someone fished this from K&T in a joist space, screwed it to the lathe, and plastered up thier mess. Even had a cover plate, made it appear ligit, like there was even a box.

It never ceases to amaze me how much effort people can put into patching up something to make it look right, when exactly the same amount of effort could have seen the job done properly.
