Design his own boiler? What do he do do...go down to the town dump, root around, find an old boiler and adapt it to his situation???

No, not kidding. because the only interviews I recall were from neighbors, I do think he was in the house when it blew up.

ThinkGood: The wire in Romex has insulation rated a 90*C- which is close to 200*F. I doubt that the pipes get hot enough to degrade the romex.

A more general note: in one of these code cycles, we need to eliminate all the specific "abandoned wiring" references, and instead have a general provision in section 100!
