So why did they bother to use a box? would've been waaaaay easier and cheaper just to drive a small-headed nail into the beam and hang the receptacle on it! And at least he wired it correctly!
Reminds me of an "extension strip" I once saw. A lenght of 16AWG SVT with aplug, a small bord and 2 flush mount duplexes. Duplexes screwed onto the board, wire hooked up.
At least they had covers, and there were 2 Romex staples used as a "strain relief".

Safety Question -- Does the potted plant inhibit safe access to the receptable, or does it provide desirable safe isolation from it?
