Another blast from the past! This type of theft has become a serious problem in the USA and most of the time it is because of illegal activities related to growing various plants in the bathtub and back rooms of shacks! Stories and images can be added here, they will be appreciated, just send them to me.

Hi Joe: I always love seeing this picture! The comment I have about it is...if someone were stealing electricity here, it would take quite a while to discover it for all this mess [Linked Image].

Although not proof positive, it is possible that every watthour is being monitored at this end.

Pair of binoculars or a pocket spy-glass would be my guess.

"So thats were new meters come from. A meter tree."

but the environmentalist are really geting on the power companies about harvesting meter trees. they are almost extinct. in fact i haven't seen a single one around me. here. now they grow meters artificially in labs. i hear that habitat restoration programs are in place to preserve the remaining meter trees.

Joe, do you have the text of the newspaper article this first picture went with? If it's in either Spanish or English I'd be interested in reading it.

Thanks [Linked Image]

Sven:

The news clipping was sent to me from an electrician in California, and it was in a local paper there. If I come across the clipping in my archives I will add the story. It was simple though, because it repeated an age old problem of electricity theft in other countries.

I have found a few images on the net when searching for electrical wires overhead or in the street.
