What do you all think of the 600 Amp disconnect? The height to the handle is a little over 8' from the floor.

Notice also the pipe in front of the small 200 Amp panel, not only is it metal and in
front of the panel but it is a hot water pipe!..............Brian

Brian: Which came first, the chicken or the egg (i.e. the pipe or the panel)? Can the door on the panel even open?

Regarding the 600a. disco so high from the floor...seen this many times. Certainly the meter/CT can take up a significant amount of premium wall space. It looks like this service has been through several evolutions.

The barrels in front of the gear don't help matters any (unless one has to stand on top to reach the 600a breaker!) [Linked Image]

From what I can tell the pipe was there first. A plumber is going to move it as soon as they can, but a little to late as I have been burned by that sucker many times already. The contractor that installed the Disco is comming to look at redoing his work as that install is only a few years old. All he had to do in the first place was build it out from the wall so the troff is behind it and then lower it to the top of the CT cabnet. This place has a lot of bad wiring done to it over the years. I would say over 75% of the transformers are not gounded/bonded correctly and other bad isues. I have more photos to come yet!............Brian

Joe,

I don't see any problem here. That pipe was installed to keep the circuit breakers warm. I would like to know what is those barrels? Anything that might burn? or go BOOM? Like gas or paint or chemicals that shouldn't be stored in an electrical room? As for the height of that breaker, it is not meant for a short electrician like me. My 6'6" helper might be able to reach it, or else I would have to stand on his shoulders. Also what about workspace clearence in front of that other yellow disconnect? What kind of room are we talking about over there?

Nothing that will go boom, only glycol for the cooling tower. This is a boiler room for the office area of a manufacturing facility. The yellow handled disconnect has plenty of clearance, it just look cramped in the photo. Update, the plumber moved the hot water pipe to the very right edge of the panel, and insulated them. The high disconnect is going to be lowered very soon...............Brian

Something blew up down there at one time. I remember someone telling me about it but cannot remember the exact story. I know the old Kinney switch gear got a new paint job because it was all over the covers. I will try to find out the story............Brian
