who knows where i can find the applications for various type ft rated cables.For example can i run ft1 cable in tray to a machine.

Rule 2-126 and appendices B and G state that the flame spread requirements for Electrical wiring and Cables.
It refers you to the National Building Code and local building legislation.
I know this is not a definitive answer but hopefully it will help you find one.
