The Contractor should contact the Fire Department + the Monitoring Agency (Central Station) prior to each day's work.
The Alarm will be placed in "Test Mode" by the Monitoring Agency before the Contractor begins anything.
Typically, the PIV is closed before the Sprinkler Lines are drained. Be ready to hear the FACP's Alarm "Beep" endlessly while the PIV is closed (PIV tamper will be indicated by the FACP as soon as this occurs).
If the PIV is not closed during this work, the Gate Valve which feeds the Line where the new Sprinklers will be installed, will be closed.
The Gate Valves also have Tamper switches (OS&Y)
Afterwards, the Lines are drained, then work may begin to install the new Sprinklers.
The Non-Automatic (Mechanical) Flow-Detection Bell may ring while the system is drained, or it may not.
Nevertheless, the System will need to be placed in "Test Mode" by the Authorized Fire Control Personnel (the Contractor). They should know what the normal procedures are.
FYI: To make things easier on everyone, try to get the Telephone Number of the Monitoring Agency (Central Station), and all the necessary information they will want to know (Bldg. Info., contract / user info., numbers for the Telephone circuits used by the FACP, etc...)
Again, the Contractor should be able to explain what information - if any, you guys (as the Client) will need to dig out of the file cabinets!
