I remember as a young kid, seeing ads for a whole range of this stuff.
As well as the receptacles, stores were selling kits of fake soft drink cans, fake vegetable / fruit cans, and fake soup tins all which allowed the HO to put their valuables in the pantry when they went away.
What I remember about them was that some of the "brands" were not available at the grocery stores in my city. So if you were a crook and saw a Van Camps can in a house you just entered there was a good chance of finding something other than asparagus in it.
