There we go, slaying the 'liability' dragon again. Let's put things in kindergarten-level terms:
1) Who's in charge? Not you? Then it's not your problem.
2) Should you have known better anyway? Then you're on the hook. "Following orders" can be a very limited excuse.
3) Will folks tell you different? Of course they will - they're hoping you'll take the hit. If they can get their tail off the firing line, why should they care about you?
4) Life isn't always fair, and sometimes you get screwed.
