Basically, as an EC I installed the receptacles that were spec's on the plans, or matched to the clients equipment.
As to 'changing' the plug on a factory cord, that was considered a "No-No", as it modified a UL/CSA/RTL listing.
Is that written in stone? Depends on how the AHJ reads the UL White Book.
