At around 16 I secured lamp cord to 2 pencils trying to make a genuine McGuyver plasma cutter. The first try only used one pencil and tripped the Zinsco in the trailer. I burned my fingers as I hadn't anticipated the temperature rise in the wood. I used pliers to hold the pencils after that. That thing wouldn't cut through squat!
