The wording of 30-406 is "chain type". I'm not sure a fluorescent on chains is a "chain type" fixture. If you were to allow that a two-chain fixture is a pendant, BX would be acceptable, as would conduit and solid wire. Then, enforcement would be consistent with the rules and with trade practice. The application of the code would also be consistent with the CSA approval of fixtures sold with a flexible cord attached.

What gauge of tie-wire are you guys using? I prefer #14 T90, white, for a clean, professional look.
