My ex-boyfriend used marijuana, he worked for more than ten years as rope access (or industrial alpinist) worker. He was only fired after a drunken man fell off of 150m and he had a raw with his boss.
That job is dangerous, but those who do it, you cannot expect to be "common people".
Your job is similar I guess.
