I was just wondering if anyone else has statistics on fires caused by electrical installations / electrical appliences in their areas.

Here are the stats for Cork City and Sorrounds (aprox 356,000 ppl although the city limits only include 125,000 i.e. the suburbs are not counted)

Year / Electrical Installations / Total callouts
1998/61/1507
1997/unavailable/1700
1996/46/1679
1994/28/2204

1998: Electrical and Other Equipment (excludes fixed wiring)
60/1507

1996:
Electric Cooking / Heating Appliences: 51/1697
(Oil:37, Gas:3, Solid Fuel: 0)

(Pressure jet oil heating was quite common in the 50s,60s and early 70s so many boilers in use would be quite aging and are always located in their own boiler house away from the house and thus tend to cause unnoticed fires often because ppl store things beside/ontop of them!)
(It's supprising Gas heating/cooking causes so few incidents though! Gas heated waterfilled radiator systems are by far the most common type of heating in use in this city)

Equipment: Electrical: 32/1697

Source: Cork City Fire Department, Ireland

Seem higher/lower/average?

(From my own personal experience of having to call out Cork city fire department they are extremely effective. They were at the scene within 2 mins of the call and had the fire (a very large bin on a street that someone had thrown a cigerette into) extinguished with in 4-5 mins of the call!)
